Why Athena?

Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, courage and strategy, is known for being a strong, empowering figure who stood for (and went to war for) truth, justice, fair play and doing what is right. Athena represents not only strong physical abilities, but also mental strength and strategic thinking. 

Athena represents the qualities we want to help girls foster and grow through in our program, by connecting with their inner Athena!

Athena's motto is "QUOD OBSTAT VIAE FIT VIA," 

or in English: “When the obstacle becomes the way.” 

This represents the idea that people can both adapt and overcome obstacles when they have a purpose. Identifying purpose is a foundational piece to the player experience in The Athena Program.

Athena is usually depicted with her Little Owl, Bubo. The owl gave her the ability to see through blind spots and thus know and speak the truth. The owl is a symbol of her wisdom, intellect, insight and foresight, and this is why an owl is the symbol of The Athena Program.
